New Resident Information
The Town of Tyngsborough has the following information for new residents. Welcome to the town!
Republic Services provides trash and recycling pickup in the Town of Tyngsborough. This service is paid for through resident property taxes; there is no additional charge.
If the house you are purchasing is brand new, you will need to call the Board of Health at 978-649-2300 x118 to get toters delivered. Otherwise, just put your trash and recycling out on the curbside on the advertised days.
The Highway Department (89 Kendall Rd) and the Middle School (50 Norris Rd) have cardboard recycling bins for residents’ use.

Tyngsborough is served by three separate water districts, and a number of homes have private wells.

The Town of Tyngsborough, which comprises 18.1 square miles in northern Middlesex County, was settled in 1661, and became a town in 1809. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,380. For more history about the town, read below:

Tyngsborough does not itself have a hospital, but adjacent cities Lowell and Nashua each have them. Here is a non-comprehensive list:

The Town of Tyngsborough is a member of the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce, which helps those looking to start new businesses and maintains a list of current businesses.

Everyone is welcome (and encouraged) to participate in Tyngsborough’s thriving local government. There are often board or committee openings (check here), and all are welcome to speak directly with individual Select Board members or address them as a board during citizen’s time during their bimonthly meetings. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has the most comprehensive veterans’ services program of any state in the nation. These Veterans’ Benefits are in addition to those benefits provided by the Veterans administration. Assistance for these programs is administered locally in your town hall Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS). There are approximately 1125 veterans residing in Tyngsborough who have entitlement to these programs. Besides providing medical and financial assistance when needed, we also provide the following services:
- filing for VA disability compensation and pension, annuities, real estate tax abatements
- lost discharges
- domiciliary care
- nursing home care
- health care enrollment
- outpatient pharmacy services
along with many more benefits and entitlements. Veterans are encouraged to file a copy of their discharge papers (DD-214), with the local veterans office.

Tyngsborough has several playing fields and an active Recreation Department. The Recreation Department also is instrumental in annual events like the Festival of Trees.
