PHASE 1 EAST, PHASE 3 & PHASE 5 SEWER DESIGN

The Tyngsborough Sewer Commission submitted a FY2022 Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) request for  Future Sewer Phase design to the Offices of Senators Elizabeth Warren and Edward J. Markey. The request was  successful, and the Town received $869,000 of Grant funding from the Consolidated Appropriations Act (P.L. 117- 103), which was signed into law on March 15, 2022. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently  rolled out the funding, so the Town is now proceeding with the sewer designs in both the Phase 1 East area as well as  portions of the Phase 3/5 areas. The map below outlines the two areas.

The goal of this work is to design these sewers in the Needs Areas, as identified in the Town’s Comprehensive  Wastewater Management Plan. The completed sewer designs will allow the Commission to coordinate with property  owners and better understand project costs and potential sewer betterment costs. While the sewer design will be  completed over the next 12 months or so, advancing the project beyond design would include a significant public outreach effort, Town Meeting approval, as well as additional funding. The Sewer Commission is constantly monitoring  any further grant opportunities to help offset construction costs of the proposed sewer line. There is no timeline  identified for such an effort as we are in the preliminary stages of the work.

Beginning late Summer/Fall 2023, residents in the area may see Contractors performing work such as performing soil borings  in or near the streets to confirm subsurface conditions, wetland resource area delineations and site survey work. If you  have any questions regarding this work, please don’t hesitate to contact the Sewer Department at (978) 743-5354  There are some locations where we may need to coordinate with property owners. The Sewer Department and our  Engineer, Woodard & Curran, will lead those communications directly with those property owners. This project will not necessitate a need to access the inside of your home.

For questions regarding the proposed Phase 1 East, Phase 3 & Phase 5 Sewer Design , please contact Kathy Cayer, Sewer Administrator at 978-743-5354.
