After several rain events with higher than normal rainfall, a culvert pipe under Chestnut Road became compromised. This failure caused a void to form beneath the pavement making the road impassable. The failed culvert pipe also caused local flooding in the area. The Tyngsborough Engineering Department along with the Tyngsborough Police and Fire Departments have assessed the damage and determined that immediate repairs are needed to reopen the road and maintain access for residents and emergency vehicles. This work will also alleviate future flooding concerns for adjacent properties.
Utilizing an emergency procurement, the Town has procured the services of a contractor to address the issue. Beginning on Friday, 9/15/2023, crews will begin replacing the failed culvert pipe and restoring the roadway integrity. This work will last into the weekend and involve overnight work. The Tyngsborough Police Department will have details onsite to ensure the safety of the motoring public. The road will remain closed until the work is complete.
Thank you for your cooperation.
