The Federal Clean Water Act (FCWA) requires that states report on the condition of all waters in their state. In order to comply, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) conducts monitoring on a rotating seven-year schedule. This year, MassDEP has chosen to focus their monitoring efforts on bodies of water in eastern and north-eastern Massachusetts. Included in this year’s program is Lake Mascuppic. This program involves approximately 10 site-visits to the lake over the course of the summer & involves additional test collection. This is a routine program and is not in response to any concerns, high bacteria levels, or other hazards. There is no impact on public use of Lake Mascuppic.

As always, the Town of Tyngsborough maintains its own regular test collections of Lake Mascuppic for run of the mill bacteria and the Board of Health will alert residents & close the lake if high levels are identified.
