Please take note of the following, upcoming Public Information Meetings for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s (MassDOT’s) Statewide Exit Renumbering Project. Beginning in late summer 2020, MassDOT is converting all existing exit numbers on freeways to a mile-based numbering system, per Federal Highway Administration (FWHA) requirements.
Construction is set to begin during late Summer 2020 and conclude in Spring of 2021. Implementation will be on a route-by-route basis, generally starting in Western MA and moving eastward. “Old Exit #” signs, will be installed at key locations for a minimum of 2 years to help drivers adjust to the new system. Benefits to a mile-based exit numbering system include: driver-friendly navigation that allows drivers to quickly determine travel distances, more accurate emergency response, ability to add future exits without renumbering an entire corridor, and national uniformity.
MassDOT is hosting a series of public meetings across the state to inform the public of the project. MassDOT invites you to attend the following Public Information Meeting to learn more about the project and ask the project team questions:
