The Town of Tyngsborough is aware of traffic challenges that occurred during the weekend following Thanksgiving in the area of Nature’s Remedy on Middlesex Road. These challenges stem from larger-than-anticipated sales during this time of year—a testament to the business's success. While this growth is a "good problem," as it reflects increased business activity and contributes to the town’s tax revenue, it also underscores the importance of our continued partnership to address such challenges collaboratively when they arise.
Immediately upon being made aware of the issues, the Tyngsborough Police Department and Department of Public Works – Highway Division responded to help relieve traffic congestion and address potential safety challenges. These efforts were undertaken at the cost of Nature’s Remedy, which will be billed for the labor and supplies in accordance with the Host Community Agreement in effect between the Town of Tyngsborough and Nature’s Remedy.
Last week, Town Manager Colin Loiselle and Chief of Police Shaun Woods held a productive meeting with staff from Nature’s Remedy and their parent company Jushi to identify an appropriate path forward. As a result of that meeting, the following additional steps will be implemented to further control traffic and ensure safe ingress and egress on Middlesex Road:
- Nature’s Remedy has already hired (at their own expense) police details for the period of time between December 19th and January 1st as a result of planned promotions at the retail store;
- Nature’s Remedy has hired on-site security to manage traffic flow in and out of the parking lot;
- Nature’s Remedy will again provide informational flyers to all patrons with directions traveling Northbound without taking a left-hand turn out of the parking lot.
- Nature’s Remedy is working to solicit a lease for off-site parking for employees and will shuttle employees back and forth to free up spots in their parking lot for customers;
- The Tyngsborough Police Department will have enhanced traffic patrols in the area and will be strictly enforcing the no-left turn and addressing dangerous sudden turns into the Bahama Breeze parking lot to head back North on Middlesex Road.
Should additional traffic challenges occur, the Tyngsborough Police Department will assign police details as necessary and bill Nature’s Remedy.
Additionally, the Town will work with its partners at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to explore additional traffic mitigation techniques as Middlesex Road is a state road under MassDOT jurisdiction.
Residents and patrons are reminded of the following:
- All traffic exiting the store must take a right and travel south down Middlesex Road. Turning around in businesses along Middlesex Road is dangerous and not permitted.
- Patrons attempting to enter the parking lot while it is full must continue down Middlesex Road and try again when space opens up in the parking lot. Queuing on Middlesex Road is not permitted.
- Parking in private lots and walking to Nature’s Remedy, especially across four lanes of traffic is incredibly dangerous and strictly prohibited.
Motorists should report unsafe traffic conditions to the Tyngsborough Police Department’s business line by calling 978-649-7504.
