The Tyngsborough Board of Selectmen will host a regional public meeting for member communities of Dracut, Dunstable, Lowell and Tyngsborough that comprise the Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical High School (GLRVTHS), on Thursday March 18, 2010, at Tyngsborough Town Hall, located at 25 Bryants Lane, from 6:30-8:30 PM.

The purpose of this meeting is to provide a means for collective discussion and broaden communications regarding fiscal responsibilities, impacts and the overall approval process for recognizing annual budgets that support the GLRVTHS programs. The spirit of the meeting is to be informational and not confrontational, by providing GLRVTHS and member communities’ opportunity to proactively share information and understand GLRVTHS’s budget development and approval process.

The timing of this meeting recognizes that all communities are preparing their FY-11 budgets. Recognition to the continued rise of health insurance, retirements, county assessments and other base programs in an economy of weak revenues and continued decreases in state aid funding are challenging to all communities. Determining equitable balance to sustain municipal and school programs and services at appropriate funding levels are common discussions commencing throughout the Commonwealth.

The meeting format is that of open public meeting that provides invitation for a board configuration of three members from each community (two Selectmen and Town Administrator, two City Councilors and City Manager, State Representatives and State Senator) with representatives as identified from GLRVTHS elected Board and Superintendent.
