Board & Committee Openings

Note: In order to serve on a board or committee you must be a registered voter in town or a municipal employee

The Board of Selectmen is seeking letters of interest from Tyngsborough residents wishing to serve as a member on the following Committees, and Boards. Use the [click here] link to learn more about the respective Board of Committee.

Planning Board (Associate Member)

The Board of Selectman and Planning Board are seeking letters of interest from Tyngsborough residents wishing to serve as an associate member on the Planning Board.  The Board meets on the first and third Thursday of each month.  Please submit letters to:  Office of the Town Administrator,  25 Bryants Lane Tyngsboro, MA 01879  No later than February 23, 2011.

Board of Health (Member)

One position for a term to expire May, 2012, at which time there will be a Town election for this office.

The mission of the Board of Health is to develop and maintain innovative programs to safeguard and improve the general health of the citizens of the Town.  Responsibilities include developing and promoting disease prevention and wellness programs as well as improving health education and environmental awareness.  The Board of Health is also responsible for interpreting and enforcing the provisions of the State Public Health Code, State Sanitary Code, State and local Environmental Code.

Services:

1. Enforce Title 5; State Sanitary Code (Septic System Regulations) as well as involvement with all new septic systems, failures and repairs.

2. Inspect food establishments, ice rinks, camps, pools, beaches, housing.  Enforce tobacco, massage, and body art regulations.

3. Issue beaver trap permits.

4. Maintain records of communicable disease.

5. Issue permits for drinking water wells as well as monitoring the safety of drinking water.

6. Coordinate availability and disbursement of vaccines.

7. Manage the trash and recycling contract.

8. Issue burial permit and other permits related to health.
Cemetery Commission

One position for a term to expire May, 2012, at which time there will be a Town election for this office.

The commissioners shall, under the supervision and control of the selectmen, maintain the public cemeteries in the town, and shall with the approval of the selectmen, appoint such employees as are necessary to maintain such cemeteries.

Council on Aging  (Member)

One position for a term to expire June 30, 2012.

The mission of the Council on Aging is to advocate on behalf of senior citizens, to enhance the quality of their lives through the identification and assessment of their health, economic, social and cultural needs.

The Tyngsborough Council on Aging is an eleven member board appointed by the Board of Selectmen.

COA Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 3:30 PM at the COA Center. No meetings are held in July and August.
