NOTICE

Roadway & Drainage Reconstruction for

Mascuppic Trail (from Parham to Palmetto)

The Board of Selectmen have initiated preparations for the reconstruction, with drainage improvements, for Mascuppic Trail (between Parham and Palmetto). PROJECT IS SCHEDULED TO START THE WEEK OF JULY 18

The project may entail some of the following activities:

  • Trimming of trees within the Town right-of-way (if needed)
  • Removal of the existing pavement and drainage
  • Placement of binder course paving (bituminous asphalt)
  • Placement of intermediate course paving (bituminous asphalt)
  • Adjusting sewer and drainage structures, frames and water & gas grates to final grade
  • Placement of top course paving (bituminous asphalt)
  • Loam and seed shoulder area (lawn areas near edge of pavement)
  • Transition driveway aprons to new roadway surface

If you have an irrigation system, please flag or spray paint the location of each irrigation head, located adjacent to the street. The Town and its contractor, P.J. Keating Company, will not be responsible for unmarked irrigation heads.  We will make every effort possible to work with property owners while construction occurs.

Construction crews will commence work from 7:00 am to approximately 7:00 PM Monday thru Friday except holidays. This project is expected to last throughout the summer.  The first phase being completed 12 to 16 weeks, weather depending, with the final roadway topcoat to be completed in Spring 2017.

During the construction activity the road(s) or sections may be closed to all traffic during the paving operation.  Traffic detours will be established for the general traffic flow.  The closing of the road would make the construction zone safer for both the residents and construction crews.  It will also accelerate the project completion time and vastly improve the overall quality of the project.

The Highway Department will continue to keep you informed on the development and progress of this project through notices and postings on the town website, and possibly CodeRED*, when necessary.  For your convenience trash collection times may be altered. The Highway Department will send out a notification if that is needed.

Please Note:  Upon project commencement, Street Opening Permit’s for these streets will not be granted by the Highway Department for a period of 5 years. If you anticipate that you may need for a Street Opening Permit (e.g. for a utility connection) in the near future, please contact the Highway Department as soon as possible to discuss.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you in advance for your patience and willingness to work with us in this endeavor.

*CodeRED, also known as Reverse 911 is a system which the Town uses to provide critical alerts, by phone, text and/or email.  For information or to sign up, please visit: www.tyngsboroughma.gov/emergencynotification.
