At their meeting on September 16, 2019, the Tyngsborough Board of Selectmen voted to authorize a 5 year lease for the use of the former Council on Aging Building located at 180 Lakeview Ave. This was the result of a RFP process used to solicit interest in the building.
The terms of lease require the new tenant, the FIRE Church of Chelmsford to do the following, all at their own expense:
- Bring the building up to fire and building code
- Maintain the building during the duration of the lease
- Insure the building
- Maintain all utilities at the building
The tenant plans on using the building not just for their church services but also as a community center open to the public for events and community outreach.
The lease does not include, and in no way affects the recreation fields which are located on that site. The tenant understands the parking lot is shared and will be responsible for snow removal and ice treatment during the winter months, again at their own cost. Further, the Board of Selectmen added a clause to the lease that would allow the Town to terminate the lease after two years if the Town has an urgent need for the building.
Through this lease, the Town of Tyngsborough will see a formerly vacant town building brought up to code, beautified, and maintained at no cost to the Town.
