Sewer Rates Increase Notice

Dear Sewer Users,

Due to the continued rise in operational costs and the need to upgrade and maintain the sewer infrastructure, the Sewer Commission has deemed that an increase in User Fees is necessary at this time.  The Sewer Commission just completed a field study that showed camera evidence of high levels of clean water entering the sewer system after rain events, attributable to sump pumping of basements into the sewer system.  The Tyngsborough Sewer Department pays the towns of Dracut, Chelmsford and Lowell for every gallon that is sent through our sewer system regardless of whether the material is clean water or wastewater.  All of the Town’s wastewater ends up at the Lowell Wastewater Treatment Plant. In addition, the city of Lowell has projected a 20% increase in operating costs and $26 million in capital projects, which Tyngsborough will be required to contribute to. Users can help minimize costs by eliminating the connection of sump pumps to the system.

Respectfully,

Tyngsborough Sewer Commission
