2015 Senior Tax Work-Off Applications & Information

Applications and information for the 2015 Senior Tax Work-Off Program are available by clicking here. This program allows interested and eligible Senior Citizens to earn up to $1,000 in real estate tax abatement’s by working up to 125 hours for the Town.

An estimated sixteen senior citizens will be selected to participate based on qualifications. Positions are available in the Town Offices, Public Library, and Council on Aging. Participating senior citizens must be at least 60 years old and have owned and resided in a home in Tyngsborough for at least the previous year. Upon completion of the work, each senior citizen’s deduction will be indicated on the tax bills issued in December, 2014 and March 2015.

Applications are due back to the Board of Selectmen’s Office by Friday, January 31, 2014 at 12:30 PM. Selected participants will begin work on or about March 3, 2014 and must complete up to 125 hours by September 30, 2014.

The program was authorized by Town Meeting in May of 2007 and amended in October of 2012 in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 59, Section 5K.

Please be advised that the information contained in the above available program packet is subject to change at an upcoming Board of Selectmen’s meeting. Due to the inclement weather that the area has recently experienced, the last two regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Selectmen have been either cancelled or limited in discussion. As a result, the program/policy has not been able to be discussed by the Board of Selectmen for any potential changes. It is our intent to try to reduce lost time by providing this packet in this preliminary form, and to allow residents to submit applications while the program/policy is reviewed.
